Blog My Personal Story: Management Challenges During the COVID-19 Crisis
This is the right time to organise and shape your business for the future. Would it be personal or professional – this is not an easy time for any of us. We all are close together in this crisis yet we are forced to be in distance from each other.
For me as a manager and a business owner, besides the care for myself and the family, there is an extra pressure and responsibility for our Company, our team, and our customers. So many decisions are to be made and executed faster than ever, and there is a lot of communication…
Team meeting was the very first thing I did, when all this crazy time started. I had a very honest discussion with my team members. We looked together at all the possible scenarios and we had to admit that so many factors were unknown. When you have smart people in your team, it makes no sense to hide or pretend. You have to lead, you have to be prepared but in a situation like today you also should be open about the unknowns and your limits.
It was a relief. I was trying to find an inspiration for the team. But I received even stronger inspiration back from my team. There was a common understanding and support, brilliant minds together, there was a brainstorming and a common decision making. This was the moment when I knew that we are going to fight this together as a team. This was the moment which made our team stronger, not just for getting through the crisis but for a very long run. Business or personal life - this is time for caring, this is also time for reflection, support, inspiration.
Over the next few days we got really busy not just reorganizing our own work routines, but also supporting our customers in their process of rapid change. While the whole team is working from home now, we have remote meetings every day, and we keep these meetings very open about everything – daily tasks, customers, business and also personal life, our feelings and observations related COVID-19. This creates and maintains a strong bond within the team even if we all are physically apart. I continue to see the proof that over-communication is much better than other alternatives in this situation.
When the initial crisis management was largely handled, I was expecting to have more time. I decided that this is a perfect moment to get things in a good order for my business. Even more - to find the opportunities that the crisis usually brings. Putting the numbers together, then slicing and dicing them, seeing and understanding trends and their drivers was more important than ever.
Well, I actually didn't get that much free time (thanks God!), our customers kept us really busy as many of them were on the same track: using this time to understand their business better, analyze the data, find new opportunities, and get ready to roll with triple power as soon as this crazy time is over. Many trends are changing and catching them early from your own business data with a comprehensive visualization tools may set you ahead of your competitors.

Sorry, I couldn't stop myself advertising our product again :). It is just because I really do have my heart in it, and also seeing, that many customers find our tool especially useful in these times of uncertainty. An extra gained efficiency from additional revenues or a cost decrease are needed more than ever to keep it going and eventually moving up again.
This is not an easy time but I see it as an opportunity. As long as everyone around keeps safe and healthy. I love my long walks in the nature, clearing my mind, recharging and finding new inspirations. It is the time when our views crystalize about what is relevant and what is not. In business, in relationships and in life.
